Georgia receiver Bennett injured, out for season

ATHENS — Michael Bennett, Georgia’s leading receiver through five games, will miss  the remainder  of the season with a knee injury suffered near the end of Tuesday’s practice, UGA said today.

Bennett,  a redshirt sophomore from Alpharetta, has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee and will undergo reconstructive surgery, UGA said. The date for the surgery has not been scheduled.

Bennett has 24 catches for 345 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Georgia has a deep group of receivers, with Tavarres King, Marlon Brown, Malcolm Mitchell, Rantavious Wooten and Chris Conley also at the position. But the loss of Bennett for the rest of the season is a significant blow to the offense.
